What to expect from your become invisible braces

become invisible braces are tight-fitting, custom-made clear plastic trays that gradually shift your teeth to their desired position to achieve your award-winning dream smile. It sure sounds easy but what is it like to use become every day? We’ve broken it down for you:

Bye bye clinic visits

Dentophobia – aka fear of going to the dentist is a real thing, and we understand people who have that fear. That’s why become was designed to skip those visits.

Our invisible braces are developed by a leading global manufacturer with 10 years of R&D experience to bring you comfortable, yet premium invisible braces sent directly to your doorstep. Your progress is also supervised by orthodontists remotely so you don’t even have to meet them.

This direct to consumer model helps us save on expenses such as operational costs for clinics and also cuts out the middlemen selling you the invisible braces. With all these saved expenses, we pass on the savings to you – so teeth straightening is now even more affordable!

You’ll (sorta) see into the future

Wonder what your teeth will look like when you’re done with your treatment? Don’t have to wonder further – we’ll show you!

When you send us an impression of your smile, our orthodontists at the labs will review the impressions and create a 3D model of your current smile and your new smile – so you can see what it’ll look like before you start your treatment. With this, you only commit to paying for your invisible braces if you’re satisfied with the smile preview. That’s why we’re really 100% commitment-free!

Meeting your invisible braces

You’ll basically wear your invisible braces every moment of every day and night for a minimum of 22 hours. The only time they’ll be taken is out is when you have meals and drinks. That’s how often you have to wear them – but don’t worry, you’ll get used to it!

Your invisible braces are transparent and clear – so no one can see them. They work silently to help you get your dream smile.

Although it’s important to take note that whenever you’re not wearing your invisible braces, you’re letting your teeth shift back to their old position. Wear your invisible braces as instructed for the best results.

Rinse and repeat

Remember when we mentioned that you have to take your invisible braces out before you start eating and drinking? But, when you slide them back in – you’ll need to rinse them to keep them clean and transparent.

This will be part of a routine for you during your treatment. It seems like a hassle but it’s very important that you do not skip this step.

You’ll be watching the calendar

You will have to change your invisible braces pair every two weeks as you won’t be wearing the same pair throughout your entire treatment.

Remember to keep track on the calendar as changing out your invisible braces at the right time is important to ensure that the treatment progresses smoothly and you get the best results.

Pain is part of the process

While you are wearing your invisible braces, you may experience some discomfort and pain. It is totally normal.

This is because the aligners move your teeth and your teeth don’t like being shifted around. But the pain is good. It means that your aligner treatment is working – after all the common saying is no pain, no gain.

However, if the pain continues to worsen – please reach out to our smile consultants and they’ll be happy to help.

Meeting your after-treatment BFF – Retainers

Once you’ve completed all your invisible braces sets, you will be given a pair of retainers to wear. We know it’s tedious having to wear another contraption in your mouth even after you’re done with your become treatment but this is crucial!

Without reminding your teeth to stay put, they’ll shift back to their old position, thus changing your smile back to the old one.

For the first 6 months after your aligner treatment, you’ll be wearing your retainers all the time. After that, you will only need to wear your retainers at night.

Ready to get started?

We’ve explained it all and now it’s your turn to start your smile journey! Take our smile assessment to find out how to get this whole thing moving. You don’t need to make an appointment or see a dentist.

How to make a good dental impression

If you’re ready to try out invisible braces from become, you could get started by creating a dental impression at home with our Impression Kit!

become invisible braces work by applying pressure at the base of your teeth, so they have to fit snugly on your teeth. Your dental impressions are used to create a 3D model of your mouth to ensure that perfect fit, hence it has to accurately capture both your teeth and gum line.

All you have to do is simply follow the easy steps below, and you’ll be well on your way to making a great first impression. Bright lights, some space and a mirror will come in handy, so the bathroom or bedroom might be the best place to start. Make sure your impression materials are at room temperature before you begin as air conditioning may cause the putty to harden even quicker. Before you start, get a timer ready, brush and floss your teeth, and wash and dry your hands before putting on the provided gloves. Let’s begin, shall we?

Check your tray size

Take one of the mouth trays and check the size by putting it in your mouth. If it’s too large to be fitted into your mouth or doesn’t cover up 2 of your back molars, let our Smile Companion know right away.

Start mixing the putty

To mix the putty, put the provided gloves on and mix the white putty with the purple putty until they are one solid color. The mixed putty shouldn’t have any swirls of white and purple. If you don’t mix it thoroughly, the putty won’t capture your impressions accurately.

Pro tip: The easiest way to mix putty is to fold them both over and over again with your fingertips, like you’re folding 2 pieces of paper. This should take about 40 seconds.

Mold the putty

Once you mix the putties together, roll the blended putty between your hands to create a uniform cylinder that is 4 inches long. This should take about 10 seconds.

Place the putty roll into the tray

Pack the putty roll into the tray, filling the entire U-shape (all the way to the back). Don’t flatten the putty once it’s in the tray. This would take about 10 seconds as well. Do take note that you only have 1 minute to go from step 1 to step 4. The putty starts to set after 1 minute.

Make a good impression

Once the putty is fully mixed and in the tray, place the tray in your mouth and use your fingers to press the tray onto your upper teeth. It is important to NOT bite down but to just push the tray onto your teeth with your fingers to ensure that the putty covers your teeth evenly. Pull your lip over the tray and hold the tray in place for 3 minutes to let the putty harden. You can kick back and relax, hum a tune or watch funny cat videos while you wait. Once 3 minutes has passed and the putty has set, use the tab to gently remove the tray from your mouth.

Tip: You need to push the tray down deep enough to fully capture your gum line as you should feel the putty push up out of the tray, enveloping your teeth and reaching up to your gums. For your lower impressions, it helps to stick your tongue over the top of the tray while taking your dental impressions.

Repeat

Now you’ll repeat once more for your upper teeth and twice more for your lower teeth. We need all 4 impressions to accurately learn more about your smile.

Send your impressions over

Great job! Now without removing the putty from the trays, simply put the impression trays in the envelope provided. Discard (or recycle) the putty buckets and the rest of the contents. The return shipping label is provided in the Kit box, so just drop it in any mailbox – and you’re well on your way to your new smile!

How to care for your invisible braces

Everyone needs a little TLC – and so do your invisible braces. As you’ll be wearing your invisible braces pretty much all the time, we’re here to give you some tips on how to take care of them so they stay clean, clear and comfortable to wear!

Rinse and Repeat

The only time you’ll remove your invisible braces is when you eat, drink and brush your teeth. Before putting your them back into your mouth, rinse your invisible braces with cold water to keep them clean. This will prevent dried saliva from building up on the invisible braces, which can cause bacteria to form. Keep your mouth healthy by keeping your invisible braces clean. However, avoid rinsing your invisible braces in hot water. The high heat can damage the plastic and ruin your invisible braces.

Brush & Floss before wearing

After you eat, make sure to brush and floss your teeth before putting your invisible braces back in. If you don’t, food particles can get trapped between your invisible braces and your teeth, which can lead to dental problems. Remember, a clean mouth is a happy mouth – plus you don’t want that piece of spinach stuck in your teeth for the world to see 😉

Clean with soap, not toothpaste.

To clean your invisible braces, remember to use clear antibacterial soap and not toothpaste. Toothpaste can be abrasive against the thermoplastic, which may scratch your invisible braces – and coloured antibacterial soaps may stain your invisible braces into a different colour. We know that invisible braces are favoured for their transparency and scratches can be easily visible when wearing them on your teeth. So keep them transparent and clear by cleaning them the proper way!

Keep it in

When you take your invisible braces off to eat and drink, remember to store them away in the storage capsule included with your invisible braces set. Leaving your invisible braces in the open exposes them to harmful germs and bacteria – and you also risk misplacing them by accident!

Invisible braces can be a great way to straighten your smile discreetly. Taking the time to properly clean and care for your invisible braces can help smoothen your smile journey to get the smile of your dreams. become makes it easy for you to straighten your smile with invisible braces at 65% less than other methods. Your treatment will be prescribed and monitored remotely by our orthodontist team so you’ll never have to step foot into a clinic. Take our free 30s Smile Assessment to see if our invisible braces are a good fit for you!

How to take a smile-worthy “after” selfie

Huzzah! It’s the end of your smile journey with become and we know you’re super excited to share your new smile with the world – or at least with your followers on social media. We’ve got some selfie photography tips for you to celebrate your new smile with the perfect “after” photo. Check out these simple tips on how you can show off your gorgeous new smile!

Lights, camera, SMILE!

Good lighting is crucial for a good photo and ideally you would want to have your picture taken somewhere with lots of natural lighting to show off your pearly whites. Try standing in front of a window so the natural light is hitting your face and not from behind you which could cause a dark silhouette of your face in the photo. However, take note that lots of lighting could also be a bad thing! Having too much light can also cause your photos to be overexposed.

Keep it simple

Your background should ideally be simple and clean from any clutter or mess so it doesn’t distract from your face. We want your smile and face to be the center of attention so keep your background and composition simple!

Be yourself

This photo is all about you and for your personality to shine through! Wear your favourite clothes, add some accessories,  or have your location backdrop in a place you love. Your selfie is unique to YOU so have fun with it!

Have some handy props

Posing with items or even a pet can add a lot of personality to your photo (and also comes in handy when you’re feeling shy). Hold your favourite mug, hug your pet or even pose with your favourite plate of food!

Minimal filters

You have a new smile and you’re loving it. You feel super confident and ready to take on anything and we know it’s tempting to add a LOT of filters into your selfie. Keep your filters to a minimum for a more natural selfie that shows off your brand new smile and embrace your confident self! If you do have to edit, keep it minimal to add some exposure to your photos or add a small bit of colour saturation.

BONUS: Have a before and after selfie

Planning to show off your before and after transformation in a selfie? We recommend that you have both photos look consistent by framing them similarly with the same backdrop so your transformation can be seen clearly. You can also choose to have the same hairstyle and clothing in both your selfies too!

Finished your treatment with become? Send us your best after selfie to hello@become.my and we’ll feature it on our site! We love seeing our customers showing off their new grin.

If you’re looking to get that selfie-worthy smile, take our free 30s smile assessment to see if our become invisible braces treatment is right for you!

Years After Braces, My Teeth Have Moved Back

Shift happens – and when it does, become will be there for you!

Growing up with crooked teeth was the hardest thing. Well, probably the second hardest thing if you wore metal braces in your teen years. All the clinic visits, the painful wire tightenings, the ulcers, the limitation on food choices, the humiliation – you have persisted through all that, motivated by the rewarding thought of a perfect straight pearly whites you’ll be showing off every time you smile.

10 or 20 years have passed, and now you realise the results don’t last a lifetime. Some of your teeth have returned to their original positions! Looking back, you remember that you were not wearing your retainer diligently following your metal braces removal. Why would you? You’d dealt with chunky metal brackets and wires for two years and you’ve got your teeth straightened, therefore wearing a retainer every night might have seemed unnecessary and cumbersome.

You wished you could time travel and tell your younger self that your retainer was your secret to long-lasting results and without wearing it, your teeth will most likely shift back into place. So is it too late to fix them now? Is there anything you can still do? Do you have to wear braces again?

Don’t worry. Thanks to become, you don’t have to go through the train track braces ordeal again. Our truly invisible braces can re-straighten your smile and there’s a good chance treatment won’t take as long as it did the first time round. They can restore your confidence as fast as in 6 months’ time!

Not just that, we’re making the experience as hassle-free as possible by delivering your full set of customised invisible braces to you. This time around, you no longer have to waste time at the waiting room and traveling to clinic for appointments. We also cut the middleman cost to make invisible braces affordable for you!

We trust you to wear your retainers this time so we throw in a complimentary set of retainers to keep your new realigned smile in place 😉
